FAQs
What is the Bob Woodruff Foundation?
The Bob Woodruff Foundation is the national nonprofit that helps ensure our nation’s injured service members, veterans and their families return to a homefront ready to support them. We do this in three ways.
- We educate the public about the needs of service members returning from war.
- We collaborate with experts to identify and solve issues related to the return of service members from combat to civilian life.
- We invest in national and community-based programs that connect our troops to the help they need — from physical accommodations and medical care, to counseling and job training, to larger social issues like homelessness and suicide.
What is ReMIND?
ReMIND is our public education movement. Through ReMIND, we help raise awareness about the needs of service members returning from war… and our nation’s greater responsibility to ensure our heroes and their families receive the support necessary to successfully reintegrate into society.
On ReMIND.org, online social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and at events like Stand Up for Heroes, thousands of citizens everywhere are “reminding” others about the issues our heroes face, and sharing solutions for what we as a nation must do to help them have successful futures.
Are you affiliated with any political party or point of view?
The Bob Woodruff Foundation is nonpartisan and nonpolitical. Our concern is the well being of our injured service members and their families.
What is the organization’s view on the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan?
This movement is not about the war. It’s about the warrior. We believe only in returning the tremendous loyalty our brave men and women have shown to this country.
Are you a lobbying group?
The Bob Woodruff Foundation is not a lobbying group. We believe our country must do what it can to return our heroes home to the assistance they need to reintegrate into society. But we also believe the government and private sector must work together to do this.
We’re collaborating with others to identify issues, launch new programs that serve unmet needs, and make existing programs better. In this way we help fill the gaps where government falls short.
How do you make your decisions about where to deploy funds (make grants)?
We invest in groups that demonstrate best practice, measured effectiveness, a willingness to collaborate and potential for growth and replication in other communities.
Investments are designed to strategically direct funds to maximize the impact on the population of service members, veterans and their families.
I know a great local organization. How can I help get them funding?
We invest in groups that demonstrate best practice, measured effectiveness, a willingness to collaborate and potential for growth and replication in other communities.
Grants are by invitation only. Groups are invited to apply for funding after we have made an initial assessment.
Organizations can contact us via email at
Why shouldn’t people just give to these organizations directly?
Because of our partnerships in communities across the country, and our place at the center of the national dialogue on the issues, we are able to identify best practice programs that are meeting a host of issues on the ground with service members and families right where they are needed.
About 9 out of every 10 dollars we raise are redeployed to educate the public and solve urgent local needs.
We also encourage the most successful programs to collaborate, share resources and replicate success, extending the impact of the investments we make.
