War's aftermath: S.A. author's new book examines PTSD (KENS-TV, SAN ANTONIO)

SAN ANTONIO -- The war in Afghanistan is now the longest in American history and thousands of troops are still fighting in Iraq. As these conflicts drag on, many of the returning veterans are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A new book by a local author seeks to helps veterans and their families.San Antonio psychiatrist Dr. Harry Croft has written a book to help people suffering with PTSD. He said it’s a common and widely-misunderstood problem that can be isolating and crippling. Soldiers returning home from war are full of hope and relief, seeing their families and looking forward to getting back on American soil. But the reality is often vastly different from the dream. PTSD can be worse than some physical injuries. Call it the psychological aftermath of war that affects about one in five returning vets. It can be devastating and overlooked. Click here to view
