Palo Alto VA scientist wins presidential award: (MERCURY NEWS, CA)

Sox-Harris, a health services researcher, psychologist, and statistician, is being recognized for his work on how to measure the success of mental health and substance abuse treatment programs. In an influential study, he showed that existing metrics bear little relation to patients' actual improvement, VA officials said. He has developed alternative ways of measuring success that have more to do with whether patients are actually recovering. click here to view
