Number of homeless veterans on the Alabama coast rising, says nonprofit: (PRESS-REGISTER, MOBILE, AL)

Of the 336 veterans who participated in Stand Down, 152 reported themselves as homeless, an 85 percent increase over the number two years ago. Of those who described being homeless, 66 said they had been without a permanent home for more than a year. Williams conceded that participation in a yearly event is far from an exacting method for counting the homeless, but he said it does provide a good snapshot.click here to view
