Complete care offered for Traumatic Brain Injury patients at new clinic (FT HOOD SENTINEL)

December 09, 2010

FORT HOOD, Texas – FORT HOOD, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center beneficiaries now have more convenient and complete access to the latest screening and treatment for Traumatic Brain Injury or mild concussion at the new TBI clinic, which opened Nov. 23 at Fort Hood.

Brain injuries are a growing concern today, with 1.4 million Americans afflicted each year, according to the National Brain Injury Association.

“But you don’t have to suffer in silence,” said Maj. (Dr.) Alan Hopewell, director of Neuropsychology at the CRDMAC Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic. “Yes, all brain injuries—from mild to severe—if undetected, can seriously impact a person’s health. People may not know that, in most cases, mild brain injuries are treatable and patients can expect a full or near-full recovery.”

“The hardest part of TBI is actually in screening and diagnosing,” he said. “Often patients don’t even realize the symptoms they are experiencing now are from a blow to the head from an earlier instance and may not seek treatment.”click here to view
