This book has touched me in a wonderful way. My son at 19 had a TBI from a water skiing accident. I,too, had the wonderful friends, family, community and doctors at OLOL in Baton Rouge. It was a journey that has touched my family of 4 boys in many ways. Jason was the 3rd of 4 boys. He too was in a coma and woke up wacky but wonderful. I choose not to leave his side-it was an easy choice-and had a wealth of college friends, family and community at my side. I had one son at home to care for and to this day do not know how it happened. So many of your stories "hit home" and made me laugh so hard. When you went to see the facilities-I could see your pain. That was the hardest thing I had to do through it all. When they told me I could not stay with him, I argued my way in. It has been 11 years. Jason is now a occupational therapist at Touro in New Orleans. Yes, he is different and the same, but the most loving person on earth. Everyone, everywhere knows Jason. We sometimes call him Waldo. He and his wife, who we love dearly, are having their 1st child in December. Yes, Lee, every time I let him go -it was so painful. We had friends that gave him jobs when he was still very sick, only to build his self-esteem. His 1st trip back to college to take 1 hour was miserable. I was sure he was going to be hit by the sorority/ frat bus. I had to give him to God each day and pray so very hard. His neruo psychologist told ME to go back to work. His journey is still on going. He is my love in so many ways. I too had to let go and let others and God kick in for his healthy growth. We are all better people for going through this. He and his wife are the most wonderful Aunt and Uncle. I secretly sometimes dread them having a child-wondering who will be there to help me entertain the other 9 grandchildren! It is impossible for anyone to understand the heartache and joys you go through when something like this happens. But, I do know that you would not change that part of our lives for anything, cause all of the good things that happen to all of us would have never happened. Don't worry about your children, they will now be more understanding, loving and better all the way around kids. It is crazy but that is where I am.

    Thanks, Dee
