I just want to encourage you in your endeavor to promote progressive quality care for the traumatic brain injured veterans and those dealing with their posttraumatic stress repercussions. Our VA hospital has also responded to our country’s obligation to meet the needs of the OIF/OEF veteran. It is uplifting to witness the change in services rendered to the new generation of combat veterans as compared to their Vietnam predecessors. It is clear that the lessons learned are being put to work. And the effectiveness of the Programs offered are obvious in how the recently wounded are moving forward with their lives with a sense of resiliency. We have an active telephone outreach campaign, which highlights all of the VA services available to the returning injured combat servicemen. Each person has a case manager who informs and instructs as to how to access the services individualized to their medical, psychiatric and employment benefits. The case managers stay with there Assigned veteran for the long haul. And I keep hearing more and more good news, in how the VA’s vocational rehabilitation and employment department is partnering with nonprofit, faith based and community organizations to make injured veterans more employable. The programs allow for bridging the gap of going back to school or sharpening their skills to meet requirements of five employment tracks (reemployment; rapid access to employment; self–employment; independent living services; and employment through long term services). One of the newest partners is hire heroes USA, a non-profit organization, which has recognized this motivated untapped labor pool.
I am really proud of our country’s united efforts to return the favor to our most valuable assets - Our defenders.
