It is not my story to tell, but my husband is a humble man... In Nov 2008 my husband sustained a TBI during an IED attack while on patrol in Afghanistan. He actually called me a few hours after it happened and sounded very odd.The first thing that came to mind is he sounded drunk.Slurred speech, stuttering, memory loss.I thought it was due to his being upset. But two weeks after the incident he was still acting STRANGE.Finally after holding two grenades in his hand and walking around the camp did someone realize something was a bit off... He was flown to Germany assessed and flown back to the states. He was sent to Walter Reed Medical Center in which he received outpatient care.I, still don't understand why they didn't admit him at that time.He walked around dazed and confused amongst strangers. My husband spent spent the next six months receiving therapy while being separated from his family.I did go and visit him when I could, but not as often as I would of liked. It was expensive and my daughter was in school. Finally in April 2009 he came home.He is still part of a Wounded Warrior Unit here on post at Fort Knox, KY.But we have found out they may med board him out. Which is probably for the best.He still deals with memory loss, stuttering, anger issues, depression, headaches and so much more.So he has a TBI/PTSD.But because he was not officially IN-patient we are not qualified for any grants. It's so sad, because we are dealing with being put out of the military and not knowing what is going to happen next.Financially it's a struggle. As it is for most soldiers and their families. I'm sorry if I've jumped around with this Story, fatigue has kicked in.My husband was up most of the night with night terrors.Ugh, I feel so helpless, wish I could just take all the pain he has sustained away. I can only pray he finds his way some how.
